The GLASS ART ASSOCIATION OF CANADA is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Project Grants - Tosca Teran and Alexandre Hupé

The Glass Art Association of Canada is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Project Grants. The professional project grant of $1500 will be awarded to Tosca Teran and the student project grant of $1000 will be awarded to Alexandre Hupé. This year’s jurors were Mathieu Grodet, Francis Muscat, and Naoko Takenouchi.
Tosca Teran will research and create an installation inspired by the space between molecules “that surround us, yet we cannot see”, bringing forth the micro-cosmos. Research will involve experimenting with cane and murrine techniques away from the hotshop, utilizing stainless steel moulds, refractory materials, and a Vitrigraph kiln.
Tosca Teran works with metal, glass, and new media. She is the creator of nanopod: Hybrid Studio in Toronto, ON. Her body of work, An unNatural History, was featured by Urban Glass Brooklyn at SOFA, NY.
Alexandre Hupé will continue his exploration of humanity and environment through a visual representation of a population sample. The work will involve creating mould blown faces combined with environmental textures. These blown glass faces will be combined with aspects of lampworked, pâte de verre, and blown and sculpted glass elements.
Alexandre Hupé was born and raised in St-Sylvestre, QC. He will graduate from the glass program at Espace Verre in Montréal, QC and plans to continue his work through the Fusion program.

The Glass Art Association of Canada is a volunteer-run organization. We offer Canadian glassmakers, students, collectors and interested individuals an online glass-network with our association’s e-magazine Contemporary Canadian Glass, our email-based electronic newsletter, and the GAAC home website.
