Introduction
Fabio Novembre (1966) is an Italian architect and designer. He graduated in 1992 as an architect at the ‘Politecnico’ in Milan (Italy) where he has his own design studio since 1994. From 2000 until 2003, he held the position of Art Director at Bisazza, an international mosaic producing company. From 2001 on, he worked for several Italian companies like Cappellini, Driade, Meritalia, Flaminia, and Casamania. He designed several showrooms and boutiques such as the Tardini shop in New York (USA), the Blumarine shops in London (UK), Singapore and Taipei and the Meltin’ Pot and Stuart Weitzman shops worldwide. He was also the designer of the Italian pavilion at the Shanghai EXPO in 2008.
Fabio Novembre’s designs are characterized by their unusual forms based on the nude human body and nature in combination with futuristic elements. He wants to create beauty and enjoyment in combination with a dramatic format that still remains usable.
One of this well-–known designs is the chair ‘Nemo’ (Figure 1) (Driade) modelled on an anonymous face without gender traits and with transparent eyes. Other designs are ‘100 Piazze’ trays, silver plated trays of Italian piazzas (Figure 2) (Driade), and the series of chairs ‘Him’ and ‘Her’ (2008) (Figure 3) produced by Casamania. The chairs are based on the Panton chair but show the explicit forms of a man and a woman without any prudery. They were labelled as worst design in the year 2008 by Wallpaper.

Glass tables by Novembre
For Cappellini he designed the series of ‘Org’ tables in 2001. They consist of several tables with a glass top covering a unique structure of fixed legs covered in rope and reinforced with a steel internal structure in combination with dozens of polypropylene rope legs that dangle playfully all the way to the floor. The cylindrical joints that fix the rope legs to the underside of the tabletop are satin finish stainless steel. The rope legs are available in red (Figure 4), black (Figure 5or) or white (Figure 6).
The tables induce a feeling of playfulness but make a monumental statement in the room, accentuating the object.
