Ludwig Schaffrath -Universum in Glas

Published as the catalogue of the exhibition in the Deutsches Glasmalerei-Museum Linnich, Germany, in 2012, this book in German is edited by Myriam Waldron with text by Michael Engelmann, Adam C. Oellers, Horst Dieter Rauh, Dirk Tölke and testimonials from students and artists' studios, and is on sale at the museum and online for € 38.-- with hard cover and dust jacket, 280 pages and ISBN 978-3-9810046-6-3.

This bold, beautifully made book begins with a biography, followed project by project with pictures of glass in architecture and documentation of all windows designed by Schaffrath. It gives insights as the windows for the Aachen cathedral. With good photos of the architecture, windows and details that clearly show Schaffrath’s ideas. With the designed chasubles, statements by Stefan Oidtmann, Wilhelm Derix and former students like Amber Hiscott. Naomi talks about his work in the railway station of Osaka and the window in the Meiji Gakuin University in Yokohama, while Thierry Boissel describes his activities at the State Academy of Art in Stuttgart and is followed by a chapter about Schaffrath’s autonomous work. At the end of the book is a list of all works about glass commissioned for architecture.
In addition to the many books already written about this artist, this book is a valuable enhancement by its completeness.
