This is supplemented with praxis-oriented knowledge, art history, and contemporary art appreciation. Art and its context are analyzed through an examination and contemplation of spaces, architectural ele- ments, and exhibitions. International guest lecturers and student exchange programs are integral part of the study program.

Knowledge of glass working is beneficial, but not necessary. Artistic talent is however a requirement. Higher education qualifications are a requirement. Exception: Higher education qualification requirements may be waved in the case of exceptional artistic talent coupled with professional experience.

A fine arts study is designed to encourage a consensus between a student’s artistic talent and their personality. It is not about getting creative people to adapt themselves to a material, in this programs case: glass. Glass is, however, an artistic material with many undiscovered facets; a material that allows for a wide range of artistic expressions. Thus glass remains an option for young artists, and an appealing one at that.
 
Ideas, concepts, critiques, reflection, craft, and physical ability are resources along an artist’s path; talent, curiosity, and work ethic accompany them. Being an artist is not something that can be learned, and there- fore, cannot be taught. That is to say, this is not a study program in which the teachers have answers to every question. This program, rather, offers the space for students to formulate their own questions. The more unique the question is, the more particular the search, and, consequently, the more successful the course of studies. Answering the questions posed becomes a life long endeavor for each future artist.
 
Art should remain a riddle even when it is prepared in a methodic and academic manner. To this end we garner our strengths: open-minded, determined, passionate, and engaged in discourse.
The six-semester ‘Bachelor of Fine Arts’ degree program in Ceramics or Glass offers an extensive, in- depth look into art history, contemporary art, art and cultural theory, and explores the materials of cera- mics and glass with the aim to apply them as artistic mediums.

Due to their specialized talents and an individually trained skill set, graduates are capable of working with their chosen materials, independently, artistically, and with technical proficiency.
A bachelor’s degree in ceramics or glass arts entitles one to bear the protected academic title of “Bachelor of Fine Arts” and qualifies one to continue his and her studies in a Master of Fine Arts program in ceramics or glass.
 
The four-semester degree program, ‘Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Glass’, offers an extensive, in-depth look into art history, contemporary art, art and cultural theory, and explores the materials ceramics and glass with the aim to apply them as artistic mediums.

A master’s degree in ceramics, glass arts entitles one to bear the protected academic title of ‘Master of Fine Arts’.
The Institute has well equipped facilities with the necessary tools and materials for all essential glass working techniques. Hot glass working is an important element of our program and is available during the entirety of our winter semester. We have a continuous-melt glass furnace, glory holes and annealers in various sizes at our disposal.
 
Lampworking, fusing, and cold working facilities including a sandblasting cabinet supplement our glass working spectrum and experienced teachers ensure the practical realization of ideas. Basic metal and woodworking machines are available.
Art history field trips to important contemporary and historical museums and exhibitions are an explicit component of the study program.
