04 Diafaan is an exhibition presenting contemporary glass art, and all art works will be for sale.
05 When an artwork is sold, the organisation Diafaan (vzw Begijnhof Sinte-Elisabeth te Sint-Amandsberg) is entitled to 15% of the selling price. Profits made from the sale of art works will be used to finance the next exhibition.
06 There are no limitations on artists who can take part; the only requirement is that the artworks submitted must have glass as their essential element.
07 The selection will be made by the organising team of Diafaan 7: Aletta Rambaut (art historian/stained glass conservator), Eric Pipien (responsible for the glass department of Luca School of Arts (Ghent), glass artist), Marie Debruyn (lecturer at the Rietveld academy of Amsterdam, glass artist), Veerle Verschooren (independent glass artist), Steven Theunis (graphic designer/publisher).
08 Submission report: each candidate must submit a report consisting of two parts:
The first part must contain photos and a technical description of the art work, such as its measurements and the way it should be presented. A written description may also be added.
The second part must contain photos of good quality (A4 format; 300dpi) that can be used for the catalogue. The catalogue will be of a professional standard and will be sold during the exhibition. A short biography of the artist (maximum 75 words) may accompany every photo, as well as contact data, date of birth and title of the art work.
Both parts can be sent digitally to the following email address: diafaan2016@gmail.com.
The photos can be sent via www.wetransfer.com to the same address.
All reports must be submitted by the 1st December 2015 inclusively.
09 Participating in Diafaan is free, with only the following conditions:
09a Each participant purchases five catalogues, of which the price will be decided on at a later stage. The catalogues are of high quality.
09b Each participant is asked to supervise the exhibition for two days and update visitor lists meticulously. When participation is confirmed the participant should give three dates on which he/she is available to supervise. Supervision is needed on three different occasions on site, and on the dates detailed in section 03.
10 Work in situ: the Diafaan team encourages potential participants to create an artwork that relates to the location, namely the chosen area in the Beguinage. Those who are interested in participating are free to visit the site, anytime between 7:00am and 7:00pm, to become familiar with the atmosphere. Those who would like to see the interior spaces can make an appointment. A visitors day will be organised on Sunday 2nd August 2015. Those who are not able to visit on this day can contact us by email to arrange an appointment (email: diafaan2016@gmail.com).
11 Participants who would prefer to make an artwork that is not related to the site will be appointed a place by the organising team.
12 Every participant will ensure that the artwork is installed in a safe manner. The organisation takes no responsibility for any potential damage.
12a Each participant provides all equipment and material necessary for the presentation of his/her art work.
12b Light: there is limited lighting available. If an artwork needs extra lighting, the artist must provide it him/herself.
12c Each participant is free to obtain insurance for his/her own artwork on his/her own expenses. There is also group insurance available.
13 The organisation provides clear signposting and identification of the artworks.
14 The photos provided to the vzw Begijnhof Sinte-Elisabeth te Sint-Amandsberg must be free of copyright for all publications of Diafaan for a period of two years, for both digital and printed publications.
15 The selected artworks will be installed on the 1st, 2nd, and/or 3rd July 2016 between 10:00am and 4:00pm. If you are unable to attend on any of these dates, please contact the organisation in order to find another suitable time.
16 The artworks can be taken away after the closure of the exhibition from 15th August, after 7:00pm and in the week following.
17 In case of disagreements, all decisions taken by the organisation of Diafaan are final.
We thank everybody in advance for participating in the exhibition.
