PREMIO GLASS IN VENICE 2016
The fifth Premio Glass in Venice promoted by the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia will be held in Palazzo Franchetti, Venice, at 5.30 pm on 26 September. This year’s prize is awarded to the Venetian master Bruno Amadi and the Argentinian artist Silvia Levenson.
The prize for the close link to the traditions and production techniques typical of Murano has been awarded to Bruno Amadi for his extraordinary skill in lamp working, shaping the glass with exceptional delicacy. Amadi reproduces organisms from the animal and vegetable world highlighting the originality and beauty of their forms and their charming colouring.
Silvia Levenson has been artistically expressing the potential of glass for some time, and is distinguished by her commitment to the production of highly evocative works. Self-taught, she is able to independently bend the glass techniques to expressive values developed personally over the course of her life and her experience as an artist. Her works are on show in the main contemporary art glass museums.
The prize, now in its fifth year, was established to highlight the heritage of glass art and has a dual aim: to focus attention on people who have distinguished themselves in glass art in the wake of the Murano tradition, and on international artists who, using different techniques and methods, have chosen glass as their means of expression.
RIEDEL AWARD 2016
At the prize giving ceremony on 26 September, the prize will be awarded to the winner of the Riedel Award 2016 from among the three selected finalists: Jakub Pollág, Anna Wójcik, and Elisa Bergmann. The prize is promoted by Riedel, an Austrian company specialising in the production of crystal wine glasses and decanters, which has been taking part in Glass in Venice for three years.
