Artist Selection Process
Artists are required to submit a proposal focused on one of the above-mentioned criteria mentioning the desired time period, an artist statement, CV, 10 images of current or recent work, and (optional) drawings or renderings of proposed works. An independent committee consisting of members of the Flemish and international glass and contemporary art scene will select the artists from the submitted proposals. Deadline for the proposals is September 30, 2018.

Participation Benefits
Selected artists will have the opportunity to create a body of work, a performance, or experiment with glass as a material. They are able to utilize the studio, equipment, and materials that Gent Glas has to offer. Selected artists will receive technical assistance and benefit from the wide-ranging experience in various glass making techniques present within the community of glassmakers and artists in the Gent Glas community.
Selected artists will have access to a fully equipped glass studio and hot shop with lead glassmaker and/or assistant with a period between seven and fourteen full studio days, dependent on the proposed project. Selected artists will have a choice to work in a condensed period of time or to spread out the projects over a longer period in order to experiment.

Participation Requirements
Selected artists will collaborate with the glassmakers and community of Gent Glas and will occasionally interact with the public during specific public opening hours. Artists selected will give a public artist’s talk about their work and their project. Artists are expected to be on site at Gent Glas between one week and one month, depending on the duration of the project. Artists are responsible for additional costs outside of the proposed budget in order to complete their projects.
Selected artists final project must meet one (or more) of three requirements - Inspiration through Engagement with Youth, Inspiration through Connections to New Media and Innovation, or Inspiration Through Engagement with the Community. Each residency must conclude in a socially engaged project: i.e. work displayed in a public setting or a public work, a public performance of some sort, or a social artist project engaging with both the local artistic community and the locale. A time gap between the dates of the residency and the public aspect of the project is possible to take into account.

Compensation
Selected artists receive up to 300€ for travel expenses and there is a possibility that we can help to cover the costs for a stay in the framework of the residence. Selected artists receive a stipend of € 300 that the artist can freely spend.
