A May 2013 graduate of Espace VERRE and current member of the Fusion transitional workshop, Amélie’s glass art career seems very promising indeed. She draws inspiration from everyday life – from everyday objects and the great beauty they often conceal. Furthermore, the influence of a prolonged stay in Japan permeates her work.
The piece Requiem, for which Amélie received the Prix François-Houdé, speaks of transition and grief. The artist describes her work as follows:
Garlic, according to an Islamic legend, would have sprouted from Satan’s left footprint as he was cast out of the Garden of Eden. Swansong of a fallen angel, it is equally a fruit of Earth, Paradise and Hell — a fruit of mourning and resilience — not unlike human life.
Moments of grief are but the ashes of passed happiness, from which the present ineluctably blooms.

Amélie intends to pursue her artistic journey by enrolling in the Master of Glass Art and Science program of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in Portugal. We wish her all the best and continued success in this new endeavour!
