DOSSOFIORITO
-Lightscape: light to recall
The act of seeing, as a creative action and as an interpretation of perceived reality, is the conceptual foundation from where this project is born.
The Lightscape lamp is a physical interpretation of our experience of recall. Three colours as a material synthesis of a precise moment that is light, space, and time. A moment to look back on, as it is stamped in our mind, by way of a lamp that o!ers again the visual perception of our lived experiences.
A minimal landscape of light, given by the sum of three glass cylinders in colours of choice, is allowing us to see and experience again the brightness of a specific situation. A landscape is recreated in light, memory is fixed in colour for the time to come: thanks to a wide available choice of tones the lamp transforms the landscape in a personal interpretation.

Dossofiorito -Lightscape: light to recall
The concept
The project
Lightscape is a lamp realized thanks to the skilful combination of ancient crafts and contemporary manufacturing techniques. In a first stage large mouth-blown glass cylinders are transformed in flat sheets following an antique Medieval method. In a second stage, thanks to an innovative system with movable moulds, the glass sheets are curved to the desired shape. Lightscape is composed by two symmetric series of three concentric cylinders that slide thanks to a telescopic movement. When the cylinders are stacked one inside the other the light emission is lower and its tonality is given by the superimposition of the three coloured cylinders. Sliding out the cylinders, the light becomes stronger and also assumes a di!erent tonality depending on the colour of the individual cylinders. In this way it is possible to manually modulate the intensity and the tonality of the emitted light. The light sources of Lightscape are easy–fitting LED engines, which can be replaced directly by the user.
The colours and the tonality of the cylinders can be chosen from a palette of more than 200 possibilities in order to o!er to the client a real reproduction of the sough-after atmosphere.
The designers
Dossofiorito is a design studio founded in Verona in the autumn of 2012 by Livia Rossi and Gianluca Giabardo. It is located in an old car workshop, where Livia and Gianluca carry out their design experiments with a very hands-on approach. Although they both trained as designers, they have a very di!erent designing method: through continuous confrontations on individual and collective projects, they aim to achieve a more comprehensive approach to the design practice.
Livia loves the disorientation that leads to discovery, the reasons why, and looking at things in details. Gianluca likes a straight and clear objective, the hows, and the perspective on the processes as a whole.
The name “Dossofiorito” (flowery mound), comes from an old neon sign salvaged in a dump yard few years back. The unusual name has been enthusiastically adopted by the design duo.
Livia Rossi studied in Italy at the University of Florence, and in the UK at Central Saint Martins and Goldsmith College, University of London. She trained and collaborated with several studios, among others Studio Formafantasma in Eindhoven. Her personal projects focus mainly on the interaction between people and have been exhibited in several fairs and exhibitions, among others: “New Designers” (London, 2010), “DMY” (Berlin design week, 2010), “Valencia Disseny” (2010), “Graz Design Capital of Austria” (2011), “Uovokids“ (2011 e 2012), “Art Verona” (2012), “Ultrabody” (Milano design week, 2012) e “Fare Lume” (Milano design week, 2012). www.livialein.com
Gianluca Giabardo trained as an industrial designer at Politecnico di Milano, obtaining a Master of European Design-MEDes- through studies at the ABK in Stuttgart and at UIAH in Helsinki. He later obtained an MBA at the International School of Management in Paris and New York. His project focus on the innovation of product-service systems, with special interest to the areas of medical emergency and technical rescue, and of advanced composites materials.
Among his projects there are the concept of the interior of the Rome underground–Line C for
AnsaldoBreda, and a water rescue ambulance boat (IF concept Design award finalist in 2008).
