In a joint statement, Cahill and Plummer said, "Since its founding in 1994, Ranamok has become an internationally renowned showcase for Contemporary Glass from Australia and New Zealand. We are very proud of what we have created and believe that we have made a real difference in the cultural scene."
Their decision to close Ranamok has been supported by Ranamok's Board of Directors.
From its inception in 1994, Ranamok has been a major promoter of contemporary glass in Australia and New Zealand. To this end, nearly $3,000,000 has been raised from corporate sponsors and private benefactors over the past 20 years. These funds have been employed to promote, exhibit and tour over 600 works by Australian and New Zealand glass artists. Over these 20 years, Ranamok finalists have been the beneficiaries of around $750,000 that has been generated from the cash award as well as net receipts from the sale of their exhibited works. Thousands of people have been exposed to Ranamok finalists through its association with the City of Sydney's Art & About festival, it's annual touring schedule and the production of its catalogue and website.
In early 2015, following the end of the 2014 tour, Ranamok Glass Prize Ltd will be wound up. All of its assets, including the 20 piece Ranamok Winners Collection, will be donated to an appropriate not-for-profit entity. At this point, that entity has not yet been identified.
