The catalogue presents new artworks in glass and a remarkable architecture project. In Coesfeld, Germany next to the buildings of Santiago Calatrava and David Chipperfield, is the Nabo designed solar façade for a new high-rack warehouse. The glass architecture has a design of alternating folds, which are covered with a solar membrane. This façade design with its calculated energy efficiency convinced the jury at the architectural competition.
Dorothee Baer-Bogenschütz is an art historian and cultural journalist for, among others, the Kunstzeitung. She lives in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Her essay uses E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story ‘Der Sandmann’ -who was said to steal the eyes of children who wouldn’t go to bed- and focusing on Coppola’s attention on visual perception, using the telescope as a metaphor to explain the subject of Nabo’s works. Using images and templates from newspapers and magazines from the real and virtual life, reworked with shifting between the ambivalent contexts, Nabo is committed to reflecting images by painting with the glass material itself.
Dr. Ulrike Hoppe-Oehl is director of the Ernsting Stiftung Alter Hof Herding, Coesfeld, Germany and her contribution to this book is a conversation with Nabo Gass explaining why he has chosen to be a glass painter, how glass became his canvas and ground glass powder his medium. And answering the question how he got involved in the discipline of architecture related glass art.
Simone Kraft, MA (1980) is an independent curator and Art and Architecture historian from Heidelberg, Germany and she wrote an essay on A Symbiosis of Art and Architecture, interior and exterior environments, the light and solar façade in the commission of the textile company EHG Service GmbH in Coesfeld-Lette, realized in 2012.

Between the text pages good photos of freestanding panels and sculptures, larger hanging panels and those on the glass in architecture. Two pages on Curriculum Vitae complete this well-made catalogue on the works of Nabo Gass. Angela van der Burght
