CONTEMPORARY GLASS SOCIETY AWARDS NATIONAL PRIZES FOR GLASS GRADUATES

They combine creativity, innovation and enormous practical skill…the most outstanding graduate glass artists and designers have a chance to win prestigious national prizes.

The Contemporary Glass Society will be awarding prizes worth more than £2,000.00 to exceptional glass graduates exhibiting at this year’s ‘New Designers: Part 1’ exhibition in London.
 
The first prize includes £250.00 in cash, a £100.00 Warm Glass voucher, a professional photo session with Simon Bruntnell worth £750.00, and a promotional and marketing package worth £400.00, including two years’ CGS membership. Craft&Design will also be providing a year's subscription to the magazine and space in the Makers Gallery pages, together worth £180.00.
 
Two runners up will receive vouchers from Creative Glass UK, and a promotional package worth £100.00, including a year’s CGS membership. Both the winner and the runners up will also receive a selection of glass publications from Alan J. Poole.
 
There will also be a number of commendations that will give artists valuable exposure in Glass Network, the CGS magazine.
 
Continuing this year is the additional prize for commitment to skill, sponsored by acclaimed glassblower Simon Moore providing four one-to-one masterclasses at his London workshop, to include travelling expenses.
 
The judges will be renowned Glass Artists David Reekie and Louis Thompson together with Clare Maddison, Director of Contemporary Applied Arts and Karen Murphy representing the CGS. Simon Moore will be judging the prize for “commitment to skill”. The judging will take place on June 26th. at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.
 
Last year’s winner, Juli Bolaños-Durman from Edinburgh College Of Art found it a great help in developing her profile and said:
 
"The CGS Prize was a great platform that jumpstarted my artistic experience in a very positive note. I am very grateful for this because of the timing and how the exposure helped introduce my work to the art and design world".
 
 
 
 
New Designers is held every June/July at the Business Design Centre in Islington. Around 3,500 newly graduated designers come together from the top 200 design courses across the nation to meet industry employers, the media, trend predictors and a design-hungry public. There are nine design zones, covering everything from animation to architecture, graphics to glass and fashion to furniture.
