ARCHITECTURE IN GLASS 
8/9/2014-12/9/2014

Type of the Class: 5 days long selective residential stay

Level: Beginners and Advanced Students

Description of the Class:
The aim of the training in this class is a fast transfer of art designs and ideas of the class participants into glass employing the cutting technique. The instructor will help the students in considering ways from the design to its implementation and in getting rid from any excess decorativeness. The students will search for right proportions giving care and emphasis on the implementation technique as perfect as possible. The instructor will help the beginners with preparing the art design and with the composition. The advanced students will be led to the improvement of their techniques with respect to the perfect processing depending on time. Sketches and initial ideas will be gradually implemented by the glass cutting and polishing techniques on grinding and cutting machines supervised by the instructor with a resulting glass art work. In this class the students will learn how to transfer an art design from a drawing on paper to the glass material with emphasis on the implementation technique in an efficient way. 
 
Supplementary Programme:
The stay is accompanied by figurative drawing lessons, a commented visit of the IGS exhibition, an excursion of the KAVALIERGLASS glassworks, a lecture of instructors, learning 3D technologies. The class participants will receive a class finishing certificate.
Profile of the Instructor:
Jan Frydrych (*1953) first finished the Professional Apprentice Glass School Nový Bor. Then he studied gymnasium in Liberec and finally was graduated from the Pedagogical Faculty Ústí nad. Labem. Thereafter, he shortly worked in the Crystalex glassworks in Nový Bor. Later on he taught glass grinding – cutting at the Professional Apprentice Glass School Nový Bor. Since 1982 he has been working as a self-employed person. He exploited his pedagogical experience from the apprentice school in training of grinding techniques in the USA, France and Japan. Jan Frydrych is represented in many public and private collections and participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions all over the world. In cooperation with leading designers, e.g. Bo?ek Šípek, Václav Cígler and René Roubí?ek, he implemented many objects for architecture, for example in Florence, Prague, Rotterdam, Coburg and elsewhere. His works were awarded in 1999 by the Masaryk Academy and in 2000 by an Salvador Dalí Alliance prize. He works with the optical glass employing the techniques of cutting, polishing and sticking and using thin colour layers. His works are based on geometry and characterized by high precision and perfection of implementation.
