-Learn about various glass processes, such as glass blowing, flame working, cold working, etching, sand blasting, fusing and casting

Decorate a suncatcher that resembles stained-glass art
Create a macramé-style bracelet with the Houston Bead Society
Embellish a glass gem to create a paperweight
-See live flame-working demonstrations by the Houston Society for Glass Beadmakers
-Join Dick Moiel and Kathy Poeppel from Houston Studio Glass for an interactive info session
-Visit with local glass artists, such as Miguel Unson, to learn about glass-working techniques
-Watch hot-glass-blowing demonstrations from the Corning Museum of Glass video archives
-View the fall exhibitions in our galleries: CraftTexas 2014 and In Residence: Works by 2013 Resident Artists
-Enjoy food and refreshments on site from The Golden Grill and Monster PBJ foodtrucks
PARKING: The HCCC parking lot will be blocked off for activities and food trucks, but parking will be available on nearby streets and in the northern end of the First Presbyterian Church’s north lot at 5300 Main St.

The HANDS-ON HOUSTON FAMILY FESTIVAL is a super-sized version of HANDS-ON HOUSTON, a free craft-activity open house at HCCC on the first Saturday of every month (11 AM – 3 PM). Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to current exhibitions and events. Families and children of all ages are welcome, and materials are provided.
About Houston Center for Contemporary Craft
Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) is a nonprofit arts organization founded to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. HCCC serves as an important cultural and educational resource for Houston and the Southwest—one of the few venues in the country dedicated exclusively to craft at the highest level. The organization provides exhibition, retail and studio spaces to support the work of local and national artists and offers mission-related educational programs to the community. Visitors enjoy viewing innovative exhibitions, visiting artist studios, strolling through the Craft Garden, creating their own crafts in monthly HANDS-ON HOUSTON events, and shopping for one-of-a-kind gifts and home décor in the Asher Gallery.
HCCC is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday, 12 – 5 PM. Summer Hours: Closed Sundays, July 4th – Labor Day. Winter Holiday Hours: Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, December 26th and New Year’s Day. Admission is free. Accessible parking is available in a lot directly behind the facility, off Travis Street. HCCC is three blocks south of the Wheeler Avenue MetroRail station on Main Street.
