This is what Åsa herself has to say about the project:
“Småland has a long-standing tradition of production using specific materials, such as wood, stone and glass. The manual production of glass, often based on an inherited knowledge of the craft, has endured in the region for an unusual length of time. The terms of production, on a small as well as a large scale, are linked to our material culture which describes the economic, social, political and ecological conditions of our times. The produced object becomes a form of fetish over ourselves as individuals and the age we live in.
 
I take a personal interest in production concepts from an artistic perspective, and therefore I believe that Boda is the right place for initiating aco-operation with the purpose of creating an open platform for experimental, artistic work with a specific material as the starting point.
 
I work with materiality as my particular language and I am interested in the relationship between our bodies, the objects we surround them with, and the spaces they interact in. I use aesthetics in my artistic practice to comment on the world around us. The portrayal is often spatial, with a conceptual basis where the imprint of the hand and my intuition adds a resonance. My primary form of expression is through glass, it suits my artistic discourse.”

Åsa Jungnelius (b. 1975) is based in Stockholm and Småland. She works with sculpture, installations andutility objects with glass as the predominant material. In 2012 she worked with a site-specific installation, “The gaze, the steak, and the banana” for the shopping center Hötorgshallen in Stockholm, which was inaugurated in the spring of 2013. Åsa is represented by the gallery Crystal. Her latest exhibition, “Mother Earth”, was displayed at Kalmar Art Museumin 2013. Since 2012 she is a senior lecturer at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design.
 
The Glass Factory is one of Scandinavia’s largest glass museums with its focus on art and design, and a collection of approximately 40000 historical objects from various glassworks aswell as con-temporary glass by independent artists. The museum was founded in 2011 in Boda Glasbruk on the premises of the old glassworks, which teemed with life and creativity already in the 1960’s and 70’s. This was the place where Boda Smithy, Boda Wood and Boda Nova were founded. But above all glass was given new and unique shapes by legends such as Erik Höglund, Signe Persson-Melin, Monica Backström, Rolf Sinnemark and Kjell Engman.
 
The Glass Factory offers both permanent and temporary exhibitions, educational activities for children and young people, as well as an extensive program with lectures, happenings, glass shows, theatre performances and workshops. The Glass Factory isa creative venue for collaboration, participation, international exchanges, diversity, artistic renewal and quality, striving to expandand broaden the concept of glass.
