The book describes how Pontier developed her career from ceramics, combining the ceramics with other materials like metal, metal sculptures, stone ware, porcelain, flat glass appliqué, blown glass, the combination flat glass (plate glass as translated is no longer used) and ceramics, moving to architectural forms in an austere and sober image language. Since 2003 onwards, the combination blown glass and ceramics in monumental forms combined with organic, blown glass elements with the Norwegian, Dutch and Ghanaian nature and landscapes and weather phenomena as a subject. Photographing rocks is still a source of inspiration for her work. As Piet Augustijn wrote: “With both feet firmly on the ground but, at the same time, floating above it: ceramic and glass, earth and water or sky. Mieke Pontier has made it her life’s work.” With variegated photos of landscapes and her objects, sculptures and vessels, the well-printed book gives a good impression of Mieke Pontier’s career.
