BECon 2015 Workshops
Pre-Conference Workshop
Between Reality and Illusion, with Kathryn Wightman
The tool is a silkscreen, the material is powdered glass. Just add a helping of creative enquiry and the possibilities are endless. This class will explore novel technical approaches in order to create powder printed illusions. We will cover textured and patterned glass prints, the stacking of multiple layers of powder to create high relief areas, hiding and revealing imagery through temperature control of powder layers, distortion and manipulation of printed powder through physical intervention and the blending of colors through percentage mixing. There will be an emphasis on experimentation. Students must bring a laptop with a version of Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator.
May 30 - June 1, 2015 ?Saturday & Sunday 10am-6pm, Monday 10am-1pm Bullseye Resource Center Bay Area

About the Instructor?Kathryn Wightman obtained her BA and MA from the University of Sunderland. In 2011, she completed PhD research (also at the University of Sunderland) focusing on the development and application of creative printmaking processes for the decoration of blown glass. She recently relocated to New Zealand to teach at the Wanganui Glass School. Having developed a strong visual aesthetic rooted in textiles and pattern design, Wightman is successfully integrating digital technologies and hand-based skills into her practice. She won the Gold award in Emerge 2014 and the 2014 Ranamok Prize. kathrynwightmanglass.com

Post-Conference Workshop
Print & Glass: Four Color Inspiration, Separation and Registration, with Jeffrey Sarmiento
Pull your images apart to put them back together in glass. The goal of this class is to explore methods of multicolored imagery through enamel printing. Working in photoshop you will learn to create separations of bright spot colors in your line art. Using the CMYK palette, you will learn to synthesize colored imagery through halftone registration printing and fuse it between layers in glass. Look forward to a few days of experimentation and fun.
